The Hotel Arts Barcelona, managed by Ritz-Cartlon, is conveniently located in Port Olimpic, an area originally developed for the 1992 Olympics.
The hotel, however, was opened in 1994. Overlooking the beach, it is within walking distance of some fantastic beachfront bars and restaurants in the area. The hotel is just a short taxi ride away from the city centre and 20 minutes from the airport.
The property has recently had a makeover and now sports all the modern amenities befitting of a luxury hotel with Bang&Olufsen audio sets, high-speed internet access and remote-controlled lights, and blinds. Understated luxury is the main theme running throughout the property.
From the fresh flowers in the lobby, to the cream interior, there is nothing brash or ostentatious about the Hotel Arts.
Most of the 483 rooms offer splendid views of the Mediterranean coast, while others face the city. The rooms all have spacious bathrooms with a separate bathtub and shower cabin.
It is worth upgrading to the executive rooms on the upper floors where guests can use the hotel’s smart car free of charge and gain access to the club lounge.
For those with a bit more spare cash, the duplex apartments on the top ten floors offer magnificent views as well as a butler service.
The beds and luxurious sheets are some of the most comfortable in the city. The feather mattress pad is nothing short of sensational, just imagine sleeping on a cloud.
Business travellers can sleep and work easy. The Hotel Arts was voted Spain’s Leading Business Hotel last year, making it its fourth win so far in addition to being awarded Europe’s Leading Business Hotel title in 2011 by the World Travel Awards.
For those who want a more relaxing break, the Six Senses spa, a powerhouse in wellbeing treatments, is located on the 42nd and 43rd floors with chromotherapy, hydrotherapy pools, saunas and steam baths.
There are six dining options available. The two most famous are Arola, created by two-Michelin star chef, Sergi Arola and Enoteca, where Michelin star Chef Paco Perez serves up a wide variety of Mediterranean dishes.
For something a little more casual, the Marina restaurant on the terrace offers light meals al fresco during the summer. An international buffet breakfast is served daily at the Café Veranda with local meats and cheeses.
Those staying in the club rooms will be offered free snacks and meals throughout the day. There is an omelette station for breakfast, delectable snacks for afternoon tea and visitors can check in swiftly at the Club Reception.
