In a bid to standardize operations and optimize the provision of ambulatory care across its network of healthcare centers in Abu Dhabi, Ambulatory Healthcare Services (AHS), a facility of the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), has announced new working hours with effect from May 1, 2014.

The Al Bateen and Al Ettihad healthcare centers in Abu Dhabi Island, as well as Al Maqtaa, Khalifa-A, Al Shahama and Baniyas healthcare centers in the Middle Region, and Al Muwaiji, Hili, Al Yahar, Mezyad, Al Masoodi, Neima and Al Jahili healthcare centers in the Eastern Region will function from 7:00am to 10:00pm on weekdays and from 12:00pm to 8:00pm on Saturdays.

The centers functioning from 7:00am to 10:00pm on weekdays include Al Khaleej, Al Zafaranah, Al Rowda, Abu Dhabi Dental and Al Dhafra Dental in Abu Dhabi Island, as well as Al Mafraq Dental, Al Samha, Al Shamkha, Madinat Mohamed Bin Zayed and Al Nahda in the Middle Region, and Zakher, Al Maqam, Al Niyadat, Al Khabisi and Oud Al Touba in the Eastern Region.

Al Khazna and Al Shwaib healthcare centers located in remote areas will operate from 9:00am to 9:00pm Thursday to Saturday, while Tawam Dental Center will reamin open from 8:00am to 4:00pm Sunday to Thursday, and Al Faqa healthcare center from 9:00am to 1:00pm and 5:00pm to 9:00pm Sunday to Thursday.

Additionally, Mezyad and Al Yahar centers will receive patients on Fridays from 12:00 noon to 6:00pm due to the distance from hospital facilities.

The healthcare centres that will work 24-hours include Al Khatim, Remah, Sweihan, Al Hayer and Al Quaa.

The new standardized operating hours aim to offer increased physician availability during weekdays, while ensuring access to the majority of medical centers on Saturdays and bridging the gap between demand and supply in the healthcare sector.

The new operating hours are based on a recent study conducted by AHS, which revealed the operating hours from 7:00am to 10:00pm to be the most appropriate to both the scope of ambulatory care provided by AHS and the segments of customers served by the healthcare centers.

Mohamad Hawas Al Sadid, Chief Executive Officer at AHS said: “At AHS, we maintain the highest degree of flexibility and understanding when it comes to meeting the requirements and expectations of our customers. By standardizing the operation hours across all AHS centers and providing access to the network on Saturdays, we seek to ensure that our operation procedures and working hours do not stand in the way of accessing world class healthcare services by our customers at all AHS centers.”

“While reviewing the current operation hours implemented across AHS network, we have considered a number of factors including the needs and satisfaction of all stakeholders and efficiency of the services provided. This resulted in a number of suggestions, of which we selected the most appropriate timings according to customer needs,” Al Sadid added.

Commenting on the change, Louise Bain, Chief Operations Officer, AHS, said: “To avoid waiting times, all patients are encouraged to make appointments and follow the directions of their family physician. Structured care keeps patients in better health and helps them to avoid illness. Patients with minor illness should continue to make appointments during clinic working hours rather than attend urgent care or emergency facilities as this congests the services and creates unnecessary waiting for sick patients.

“The new timings will not only improve the efficiency of services provided by our healthcare centers, but also increase the number of quality hours spent by our healthcare professionals in consulting patients and visitors. In that way, the timings come in direct response to the growing demand for ambulatory healthcare in Abu Dhabi and reaffirm our commitment to achieving the optimal use of AHS resources.”

Patients needing urgent care are advised to visit Khalidiya Urgent Care Center in Abu Dhabi Island, Mafraq Urgent Care Center in Middle Region and Tawam Urgent Care Center in Eastern Region. These centers deal with cases such as minor broken bones, moderate asthma, abdominal pain, minor wounds, eye injuries and sudden rashes.

Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi Island, Mafraq Hospital in Middle Region and Al Ain Hospital in Eastern Region also deal with emergency cases, such as severe allergic reactions, chest pain, difficulties in breathing, fever in young infants, injuries from car accidents, medications overdose, poisoning, serous broken bones, serious burns, serious cut wounds, seizures, severe abdominal pain and severe vomiting and diarrhea.

AHS operates a number of healthcare centers across Abu Dhabi Island, Middle Region, Eastern Region, Western Region and Remote Region to provide general medical care. While Al Khatim, Remah, Sweihan, Al Hayer and Al Qua’a centers operate round the clock, other centers operate in different timings between 7:00am and 10:00pm depending on the area, patient demand and proximity to alternate AHS centers.

In its efforts to improve the delivery of healthcare services, AHS regularly reviews its procedures and operating hours at the healthcare centers, in line with the government’s vision to become one of the best five worldwide in offering world class public services, where excellence in healthcare service delivery is a top priority.

Ambulatory Healthcare Services is committed to making the lives of people in the emirate of Abu Dhabi healthier. AHS uniquely combines local research findings and latest scientific evidence in the delivery of its services.
