Sharjah’s Corniche Hospital, which has achieved the ‘Baby Friendly Hospital’ accreditation by the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) and World Health Organisation (WHO), is set to achieve the third round of Baby Friendly Hospital accreditation, Gulf Today has reported. The Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) aims to give every baby the best start in life by creating a health care environment that supports breastfeeding as the norm. It includes a global assessment and accreditation scheme that recognises the achievements of health facilities whose practices promote, protect and support breastfeeding. The hospital was first awarded with the BFHI accreditation from Unicef for the excellent support it offered to breastfeeding in 2006 and then in 2010.
