King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Centre managed by Hilton (“KHBTCC”) underlined its commitment to the “Lowest to Highest for Cancer” charity initiative by once again hosting the main pre-trek event for the expedition crew, charity patrons, family and friends.

Team leader and renowned Jordanian mountaineer Mostafa Salameh, along with his courageous 24-strong Jordanian team, will follow up their hugely successful 2013 trip to the base camp of Mount Everest with a 10-day expedition to Tanzania, to reach Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest summit in Africa.

In preparation, the team invited over 200 supporters to join them on a short five-km walk along the shore of the Dead Sea, before enjoying hospitality and a fitting send off at KHBTCC. Charity patrons, Their Royal Highnesses Prince Mired bin Raad and Princess Dina Mired, who are part of the LH4Cancer – Africa team also joined the fond farewell alongside cancer patients from King Hussein Cancer Centre, to offer their best wishes ahead of the arduous trip.

“These annual treks are our way of raising not only funds but awareness about cancer and the heroes fighting this illness on daily basis. Hilton KHBTCC has supported our vision from day one and we are delighted they continue to partner with us in helping to make this event a successful one,” said team leader Mostafa Salameh.

From arrival in Tanzania, the trek will involve several stops and camps, five climate zones from warm equatorial to cold arctic conditions, before reaching the summit of the mountain.

Kamel Ajami, Hilton Worldwide country manager, Jordan said: “I am pleased to once again support the efforts of a team of outstanding individuals, determined to assist with fundraising efforts for the expansion of the cancer centre. Mostafa and his team deserve our praise, our best wishes and our continued support which I am happy to provide here at KHBTCC, the starting point of this momentous journey.”

The expedition team departed Hilton KHBTCC carrying prayer flags and t-shirts, signed by cancer patients currently receiving treatment at the King Hussein Cancer Center, to place them at the peak of Kilimanjaro.
