The Emirates Standardisation and Metrology Authority (Esma) has extended by six months the deadline for portable water manufacturers in the country to comply with new unified regulations, which were approved by the UAE cabinet in 2013, Gulf News has reported. The new regulations are designed to tackle potable bottled water and all materials that come in contact with drinking water. It also covers labelling and packaging of bottles, as well as distribution. Esma has pushed back the original April 1 deadline until October 1, 2014, after most firms were unable to comply with the new law.
