TASNEEF” and the “The National Transport Authority” signed a cooperative agreement, regarding implementing the application of safety regulations on small ships that are not covered by international maritime treaties during the second day of the Arab Maritime Forum that was hosted in Dubai. According to the agreement, TASNEEF was authorized to issue certificates and hold required inspections, in addition to implementing of NTA’s Chairman’s decision (No. 3 of 2010) of establishing regulatory list for yachts with 24 meters of length or more.

The agreement was signed by General Director of NTA, H.E Salem Al Zaabi, and CEO of “TASNEEF”, Eng. Rashid Al Hebsi, with the presence of TASNEEF’s Chief Operating Officer, Eng. Omar Abu Omar.

This initiative came as a result of the desire of both parties to build bridges of cooperation and coordination between each other, in order to enhance maritime safety, prevent marine pollution and raise the level of compliance with local agreements and regulations and regional legislation and international maritime regulatory services, as well as to promote and develop cooperation in the field of maritime transport.

In this regard, H.E Salem Al Zaabi, General Director of NTA explained that “the UAE has participated, within the Gulf Cooperation Council, in the list of security and safety regulations for the small ships that are not covered by international maritime treaties. The list was issued, and then a decree was issued to apply it in the country. Therefore, we found TASNEEF as the qualified national authority with the high-potential and capability of implementing the highest standards, and we wish them success”

He also added that the NTA has a technical team that will work collaboratively with TASNEEF for a follow-up and continuous coordination. “We are confident in TASNEEF and its potentials, and we wish for them to implement all security and safety standards on small ships.”

From his side, CEO of TASNEEF, Eng. Rashid Al Hebsi expressed his happiness in this event by saying: “We appreciate the valuable confidence granted to us by NTA, beside the importance of this agreement, which is an important step towards applying the best practices and administrative and legislative interpretations to safety regulations for yachts and small ships. And we, in TASNEEF, will do our job, so are our priorities, neutrally and transparently, in preserving the life and properties of maritime, and we will protect the marine environment through issuing and implementing norms, standards and confirmed certifications”

Meanwhile, TASNEEF’s Chief Operating Officer, Eng. Omar Abu Omar said that “this is one of the important steps that TASNEEF is taking inside the UAE to support its launching, regionally and internationally. “And he added: “we are proud of the confidence given to us by the Emirati maritime sector. This says that TASNEEF has the capability and efficiency to provide superior classification services, and is able to compete, with high quality, with foreign classification agencies operating inside and outside the country.”

Nevertheless, it is worth mentioning that TASNEEF is the first national authority aiming at raising the level of efficiency and specifications of ships that carry the UAE flag, as well as abiding with them and applying them in all national and international companies.
