Hamad Medical Corporation and Primary Health Care Corporation celebrate implementation of Clinical Information Systems

: Thursday, April 03 - 2014 @ 12:43

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) jointly celebrated the successful implementation of the new Clinical Information Systems (CIS) program this week. Through this system,
clinicians will be able to access a patient’s health records electronically, amongst other benefits.

HMC has announced the successful go live of the first phase of the CIS program in Al Khor Hospital with Al Daayan Health Centre recently, involving a patient administration system which includes patient health records, registrations and appointments. This will be followed by the next phase implementation of all clinical systems in all departments of Al Khor Hospital expected at the end of the month. The program roll out to all other HMC hospitals and PHCC clinics will be within the next two years.

This is a major achievement that has taken about 2 years of planning, preparations and execution by HMC, PHCC and their vendors, and is a significant step forward for the two corporations in delivering the best patient care.

CIS follows the National Health Strategy and fully supports delivery of the eHealth vision for Qatar. However, the CIS program is primarily a transformation program utilizing best practices for clinical services evidenced globally and supported by systems selected by clinicians for clinicians from world class market leaders to enable this transition.

Dr. Abdul Wahab Al Musleh, Deputy Chief of Medical, Academic and Research Affairs for CIS said, “CIS is one of the most ambitious and important programs for the future of HMC. HMC and the PHCC have partnered with two main international suppliers, Cerner and Dell Solutions, to assist us on this groundbreaking project and ensure that people in Qatar are always given the safest and most efficient medical care.”

“The ultimate goal of implementing a Clinical information System is to improve the quality of care and services provided to the people. A main benefit approaching this as a joint program between PHCC and HMC is to enhance integration and continuity of care for our patients by ensuring that there is only one record for each patient and this is shared in real time among healthcare providers in both organizations.” Said Dr. Juliet Ibrahim/Executive Director of Clinical Affairs and CIS project Vice Chairperson.

This first step is therefore the start of a change and improvement journey that replaces existing systems and provides one electronic patient record across all HMC and PHCC facilities. It will provide a standardized build allowing a common view for clinicians and extensive analysis capability. This will support the academic health system vision of the two healthcare providers in the country.
