Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has won the prestigious award of Healthcare Innovation during the opening session of the 14th Annual Congress of the Arab Hospitals Federation (AHF), which took place in Cairo from 12 to 13 March 2014.

The award was received on behalf of HMC by Mr. Mohammad Mubarak Al Noimi, Chief of Communication and Chief of Staff for the Managing Director’s Office at HMC, and Mr. Ali Abdullah Al Khater, the Executive Director of HMC’s Corporate Communications Department. The award was handed over by Egyptian Minister of Health H.E. Dr. Adel Awad; H.E. Dr. Faiqa Saeed Al-Saleh, Arab League Assistant Secretary General for Social Affairs; and Dr. Faouzi Adaimi, President of the Arab Hospitals Federation.

The Healthcare Innovation Award is reward for the work and efforts of HMC, the principal public healthcare provider for the State of Qatar, to meet the healthcare needs of Qatar’s growing population. It also recognizes HMC’s endeavors to become the first provider for healthcare services in the Middle East to adopt the Academic Health System, ensuring all services are provided in accordance with the highest international quality standards. The award is also recognition of the efforts of all HMC staff who have contributed to HMC’s local and regional achievements.

With the congress being held concurrently with the Council of Arab Health Ministers, HMC’s representing delegation to the 14th Annual Congress of the Arab Hospitals Federation also received a number of Arab Health Ministers at HMC’s stand, including the Egyptian Minister of Health H.E. Dr. Adel Awad; H.E. Abdulkareem Bin Sadiq Al-Shahabi, Minister of Health in the Kingdom of Bahrain; and HE. Dr. Majeed Al Amin, Iraq’s Minister of Health. Mr. Mohammad Al Noimi and Mr. Ali Abdullah Al Khater from HMC presented plaques of appreciation to the Egyptian and Bahraini Ministers of Health, as well as to Dr. Tawfik Ahmad Khoja, Chairman of the Executive Board of the event’s organizing committee, in recognition of his contribution to the success of the event. The HMC delegation made a brief presentation to the Arab ministers on HMC’s healthcare activities and capabilities, as well as its pioneering medical and clinical role in Qatar.

Mr. Mohammad Mubarak Al Noimi was also awarded with the AHF’s Medal of Distinction in recognition of his role as a member of the AHF executive board and the considerable support he has provided to the federation over the past years.

Speaking on HMC’s achievement and the Healthcare Innovation Award, Mr. Al Noimi said: “This award will motivate HMC and all its employees to keep adopting their successful approach and to seek more developments and achievements.” Mr. Al Noimi added that this award reflects the great work and the continuous development that has been taking place at HMC over the past few years, not only on medical and clinical levels, but also in the fields of education, and medical and academic research.

“The regional and international recognition of HMC’s achievements reflects the corporation’s excellent performance and outstanding abilities. This impressive performance can be attributed to the determined efforts made by HMC to enhance its international competitiveness. As a result of these efforts, HMC achieved the Joint Commission Accreditation (JCI) for all of its hospitals, which has in turn enabled HMC to win several prestigious healthcare awards,” said Mr. Ali Al Khater.

Professor Michael Richmond, Chief of Medical, Academic and Research Affairs at HMC, gave a scientific presentation titled: “Partnering with your Staff on Problem Solving.” Prof. Richmond stressed the importance of building trust between the management and the employees, adding that such trust can become the best way to overcome all the challenges that face performance development and quality improvement processes within healthcare organizations.

The participation of HMC in the 14th Annual Congress of the Arab Hospitals Federation came as part of the corporation’s plans to benefit from regional and international expertise in the field of healthcare and to explore collaborations with other healthcare organizations in the region. It also aimed at showcasing the full spectrum of its healthcare capabilities as well as presenting HMC’s pioneering medical and clinical role in Qatar and the great steps it has made during its exciting and continuous journey of healthcare quality improvement.
