Oman: Wednesday, January 19 - 2011 @ 14:38

The agreement was signed by Board Chairman of HAYA Water Company, HE Sultan bin Hamdoun Al Harthy on behalf of HAYA Water and International Projects Director of Cadagua, Mr. Antonio Casado Sola from Cadagua SA/Galfar Engineering Company Consortium, in the presence of HAYA Water CEO Omar al Wahaibi and the CEO of Galfar, Mr. Hans Erlings.

Following the signing ceremony, HE Sultan bin Hamdoun Al Harthy said that this project, with a total cost of more than OR37m, is one of the most important stages of Muscat Wastewater Project Master Plan, which started in 2005. He added that the New Darsait STP is expected to be completed within 1095 days.

Furthermore, the Muscat Wastewater Project is one of the most important development projects in Muscat governorate because it is closely linked to the health and safety of citizens, as well as the safety of the environment. It will usher in a qualitative leap in life in Muscat.

Darsait catchment is completely situated within the Greater Muttrah province and covers the areas of Wadi Al Kabir, Hamriya, Ruwi, Bait Al Falaj, Darsait, Coastal Darsait, Aynt, Muttrah, Muscat, Sidab and Al Bustan.

All the areas in the Darsait catchment will be provided with sanitary sewer network(s) that will discharge their collected wastewater into Darsait sewage treatment plant. Currently, there is an existing sewer network at Darsait catchment that covers the areas of Ruwi, Bait Al Falaj, most parts of Darsait, small portions of Muttrah and small parts of Wadi Al Kabir. The remaining portions of Darsait (Coastal Darsait & Aynt), remainder of Wadi Al Kabir and Hamriya areas will be provided with a new sewer network which is under construction and expected to be completed by the end of 2012.

The main treatment process at Darsait STP shall be based on Membrane Biological Reactor (MBR) technology in water treatment, and is equipped to handle a maximum daily flow of 50,000 m³/day. It is considered as one of the best systems in the world, because it guarantees the production of high quality pollutants-free treated water.

As part the Works, new treated effluent storage reservoirs and a transfer distribution pumping station shall be designed and constructed by the Contractor. The Contractor will provide a telemetry link to connect the New Darsait STP facilities to the Haya’s Central Control Room at the existing Al Ansab STP together with the provision and installation of all necessary instrumentation and control systems.
