US expert to address leaders in Saudi healthcare

Saudi Arabia: Monday, April 18 - 2011 @ 13:59

When it comes to healthcare IT standards, keynote speaker, Dr. C. Martin Harris, Chief Information Officer, Cleveland Clinic, US, is considered one of the world’s leading creative minds.

Dr. Martin Harris says, “The patient’s health-care team – including the patient – should have access to their information.” In his keynote address he will examine how the age of bottomless budgets is over, while at the same time the demands on the hospital and healthcare systems are exploding. He will answer how a healthcare CIO can navigate these incredibly challenging trends and still succeed with the first step of implementing working IT systems.

Recognised by Fast Company in 2010 as one of the 20 most creative people in the world, Dr. Harris was tapped by President Obama to help draft the electronic-health-records mandate in the stimulus package, worked with Google on its health platform, and guided Microsoft on an innovative pilot in disease management.

He’s also stoking change in his day job, at the Cleveland Clinic: This year, the 5.9 million patient records managed by Harris’s system will be used to create performance scorecards for doctors, with detailed, real-time measures of patient outcomes and satisfaction.

Taking place on 29 May 2011, the Leadership Summit this year is devoted to exploring and examining best practices to tackle and succeed in an increasingly challenging environment.

Speakers at the Leadership Summit will include:

In addition, the Leadership Summit will present the stories of international CIOs who have won HIMSS Analytics EMRAM Stage 6 and 7 Awards. Tom Smith, Chief Information Officer, NorthShore University Health System, Chicago, USA and Antoine Geissbuhler, Professor of Medical Informatics, University of Geneva Hospital, Switzerland will share their case studies on the journey through each stage to the top of the EMR Adoption Model.

Attendees will also have the opportunities to interact with industry leaders at the HIMSS Leadership Summit Dinner.

The Leadership Summit will be followed by Healthcare IT Management Conference and Exhibition on 30 – 31 May.

The Conference focuses on the practical challenges for management professionals in the integration of deployment of Healthcare IT (HIT).
