Orienting participants on industry demands for BIM-certified professionals

Qatar: Wednesday, April 24 - 2013 @ 09:40

This event’s theme, “Skilled people to get the best out of BIM”, will focus on BIM educa-tion and certification and will provide an overview of the demand for qualified BIM profes-sionals.

The first event dealt with business processes in the life cycle of facilities; the second focused on technology. The BIM User Day attracts students, faculty and staff from QU and other institutions and participants from major local organizations.

The non-profit event is organised in conjunction with HOCHTIEF ViCon Qatar W.L.L. and Teeside University UK, and focuses on the four components of Building Information Modelling (BIM): processes, technologies, people and policies.

Presentations discussing one of the components are provided by experts to raise awareness of BIM concepts and their importance in design, analysis, documentation, and delivery of projects from conceptual to construction phase and beyond.

This event will feature presentations on a wide-range of topics related to the theme “People”, guidance talks on future career options and experiences, and open discus-sions. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet contractors and consultants as well as representatives from academic institutions and client organisations.

Commenting on the upcoming event, QU co-organizer Dr. Saleh Mubarak, the Head of Civil Engineering Department, said: “In line with Qatar University’s mission to serve the needs of the local community, the Qatar BIM User Day is an invaluable opportunity for our students, faculty and staff to gain more knowledge of BIM relevance in the design and construction industry in Qatar and to be updated on industry challenges and concerns by which they can in turn empower the industry through innovative applicati-ons”.

“Skilled and well educated staff pave the road to success. As industry we need to pro-vide opportunities to further train and educate our teams. We have the responsibility to qualify the next generation, as the students of today are the professionals of tomorrow”, said René Schumann, Managing Director, HOCHTIEF ViCon Qatar, explaining the contri-bution of well qualified teams to project success and highlighting the importance of a BIM knowledge exchange platform in Qatar.
