Friday saw the biggest ever HSBC Rugby Festival Doha take place at Doha Rugby Football Club, with over 40 teams and 700 young rugby players from across the GCC involved. The event forms the final leg of the HSBC Youth Rugby Series 2013/14 and players from U-6 to U-18 travelled from across the GCC to take part and earn points towards end of season prizes provided by HSBC.
Doha were crowned winners in the U-8 and U-18 age groups, with the teams from Dubai, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi also taking home trophies – presented by ex-Scotland captain and HSBC Rugby Ambassador Rory Lawson. Lawson, 32, has been spending time in the region with HSBC and was blown away by the passion and commitment on display from the players, parents and officials in Doha.
“It’s truly a privilege for me to be involved in festivals such as the HSBC Rugby Festival Doha and be able to give something back to the sport I so love. I’m amazed by the energy and commitment shown by everyone involved in keeping the game so alive at the junior level and it’s as this early stage that kids form lifelong bonds with one another and with the sport. The HSBC Youth Rugby Series is a fantastic tool for supporting the growth of the game and promoting the values of rugby.”
HSBC customers who came down to the event were treated to gifts and rewards including rucksacks and blankets, whilst children were able to take part in interactive games at the HSBC Skills Zone – the ultimate test of rugby abilities.
