Oman: Tuesday, January 26 - 2010 @ 14:37

This international event has a 22-year history and this is the first time a company has stepped up to sponsor Oman’s participation. The Ship for World Youth project is organised by the Japanese Government with participation from 13 countries: Japan, Sultanate of Oman, Australia, Bahrain, Ecuador, Egypt, India, Sri Lanka, Turkey, UAE, Yemen, Greece and Kenya.

Representatives from the Ministry of Sports Affairs and Nawras held a joint press conference recently to announce their partnership in this national and international project, which is aiming to deepen the friendship and understanding between world youth. Through a mixture of different nationalities and cultures working together as a team, the journey is giving the young people new skills and abilities.

The Sultanate is participating for the seventh time, presenting the historical maritime and trading heritage that the country enjoys. The programme is jammed full of activities and the Omani participants have already spent several days living with Japanese families before boarding the ship which is docking in many different destinations before returning to Japan.

Hisham Juma Al-Sinani, Director for International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Sport Affairs, said, “Through this participation we are seeking to present Omani customs and traditions as well as the characteristics of our Omani society. Also, it is improving the Omani participants’ knowledge and skills to enable them to effectively communicate with international cultures.”

Al-Sinani added, “We are more than happy to have this partnership with Nawras supporting such a project. It shows how the company is caring about the society while also enriching Omani youth and promoting Oman internationally.”

“Nawras is proud to be the first company to sponsor the Sultanate’s participation in the Ship for Word Youth. This voyage supports Omani youth as they present their nation during this international event. Also, it is a good chance for the world to get to know Oman closely through its youth,” said Tariq Al-Barwani, Nawras Head of Corporate Affairs.

Al-Barwani added, “Nawras supports many different initiatives in the society, working closely with government and private organisations to play its role as a responsible member of the community. Nawras has a strong partnership with the Ministry of Sports Affairs because sport is one of the most important sectors that the company supports in a bid to encourage yuoung people in particular, to participate in such healthy pursuits.”

Nawras presents itself in different sports events in Oman and in the past has supported the summer sports programme organised by the Ministry of Sports Affairs. Nawras – a member of the Qtel Group – is also proud of being the official telecommunications partner of the 19th Arabian Gulf Cup which saw the Omani national team finish victoriously. Nawras supports a variety of sports like bowling, cricket, beach football and volleyball.
