This positive response indicates that customers in Oman expect their telecommunications provider to act as a responsible part of the community.
The most recent example of Nawras’ environmental responsibility is the introduction of recycled paper bags as a replacement for the plastic bags previously used. The environmentally friendly paper bags help save natural resources, energy and trees, and are much easier to dispose of than plastic bags.
Nawras has implemented another initiative to reduce the consumption of paper. Self-service machines have been introduced to provide easy access for Ajel bill payment and Mousbak recharge, which reduces the need to buy physical recharge cards. Around 50 machines are now live with recent installations having taken place at Said Al Sahi Trading, Khaborah, Al Ebdaa Book Shop at Ibra, and Nawras Hurmoz at Khasab. Customers can now easily settle their accounts with less energy and time.
To further help the environment Nawras is reducing the amount of paper used to print bills. From August 2009 all customers will receive a shorter, summarized bill for free each month. The summarized bill includes itemization of international calls and roaming usage. Longer.
Another initiative that anticipates a healthier environment is the self-care portal MyNawras. MyNawras is an exclusive and highly convenient self-care facility available to all Nawras customers. This is a simple and easy system that enables customers to manage their accounts and use of services. With MyNawras self-care services, customers can view their bills and prepaid balance, pay and recharge them and do much more at the click of a mouse – whenever and wherever they wish with complete confidence and security. Customers can register for MyNawras through an online form found in the MyNawras section of the award winning website. Once registered, accessing the system simply requires customers to go to the Nawras website, click on MyNawras in the main menu, and then enter their unique user name along with the password they have chosen.
There are several more important steps that Nawras has taken to help the environment. Nawras has provided customers with the option of receiving their monthly statement electronically by email (called e-billing) instead of printed versions.
Customers are also able to cut down on physical recharge cards by using the very popular Send Me Credit / Hawalli service through which they are able to send credit for free to other Nawras customers. The services is easy to access through an interactive menu by simply dialling *141#, selecting the preferred language and choosing the service. The service may also be used when roaming.
Finally, Nawras customers are able to recharge their Mousbak accounts by using banking recharge, available at Bank Muscat and Oman Arab Bank, through cash deposit machines, ATMs, online banking and the call centre.
As a leading Omani company Nawras takes its responsibility towards society and the environment seriously, often taking a leadership position in relation to activities that help combat climate change. This is because at Nawras we believe that companies, in collaboration with the government and individual people, should be doing their bit to help the environment.
