Aranz Medical Limited is a subsidiary of the Applied Research Associates New Zealand Limited (Aranz), a world-leader in 3D scanning and modelling technology with experience in application areas as diverse as data collection for movie making special effects, custom orthotics and prosthetics and geological data interpretation.
With the support of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE), the New Zealand government’s economic development agency, Aranz Medical is introducing its high-tech Silhouette Product Suite in the UAE at Arab Health this week, at a time when the region’s health sector is booming.
Wayne Mikkelsen, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise’s Dubai-based Trade Commissioner commented on how Aranz is a great example of New Zealand’s ability to merge and integrate diverse technologies:
“New Zealand’s health industry is distinct for the level of collaboration and convergence among medical technology companies, surgeons, clinicians and the commercial sector. This cross-over has allowed New Zealand to leverage its strengths from biological and medical sciences, as well as from niche manufacturing, information technology and the development of specialised electronics. To think that technology such as the products ARANZ develop can be utilised for so many different applications is a tribute to the country’s ingrained ingenuity and creativity,”
Mr Mikkelsen said.
One of Aranz’s first customers was Weta Digital who used its innovative technology to bring to life animated characters in movies such as the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy. However, the Silhouette Product Suite also has important applications within the healthcare IT sector, with the technology helping medical specialists to more effectively manage a patient’s wound therapy.
“Silhouette is an innovative device that is dramatically improving the ease and accuracy with which wounds are assessed and documented,” states Dr Bruce Davey, CEO at ARANZ Medical Limited.
“We are delighted to have a representative present at Arab Health in order to talk with clinicians and potential business partners in the Middle East. With the growing demands of wound care in the region we believe that Silhouette can help health care professionals provide superior care for their patients,” he added.
Silhouette can assess all external wound types including chronic wounds (e.g. diabetic, vascular and pressure ulcers) and acute wounds (e.g. surgical wounds). Wounds are a growing burden on healthcare systems due to ageing populations and the increasing incidence of diabetes.
To date Silhouette is already used in over 18 different countries and markets in a variety of care settings including hospitals, wound care centres, long term care facilities and home health agencies. Silhouette is also ideal for research use, including the collection and management of data for clinical trials.
Aranz will be showcasing its products at Arab Health this week along with other participating New Zealand companies including Educating Global, a comprehensive health education consultancy and Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, world leaders in respiratory care. They will also be joined by Mercer Middle East, designers of innovative sterilisation and infection control solutions, Orion Health, provider of clinical workflow and integration technology and Winscribe, who offer digital dictation devices.
Arab Health 2010 will take place from the 25th-28th January at the Dubai International Conference & Exhibition Centre.
