University of Wollongong in Dubai chooses Dynacord Cobra 2 for concert

United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, April 13 - 2004 @ 11:12

University of Wollongong in Dubai organized their fun day at the Wonderland Theme & Water Park with a concert called the Dazed and Confused: The Come Together Gig.

The Dynacord Cobra 2 system was used to provide 5000 watts of crisp, clear sound. It is the world’s first compact line array system and is designed to provide high-quality sound reinforcement for events in small to medium-sized venues covering distances up to 40 meters and areas in the region of 1000 square meters. The Cobra 2 system produces a maximum SPL of 137 dB L + 137 dB R in the medium and high frequency ranges and up to 141 dB in the bass. Also, the Cobra 2 has a bigger brother delivering 10000 watts called the Cobra 4. However, both PA systems provide a great proposition for their “plug & play” simplicity, ease of carrying with less crew and ability to carry it all and more in a small van.

As for microphones, the Shure SM58 for vocals and the SM57 for the guitar and bass amps were used. Plus the PGDMK6 Drum Mic Kit, a complete drum package with 6 microphones for the kick drum, snare drum, toms, percussion, overhead and cymbals. While on stage, the Electro-Voice Sx-300 speakers were used as stage monitors that really helped the bands during their performance. A Midas Venice 320 32 channel console was used by the FOH Engineer to deliver that professional mix. Other equipment used were a Klark Teknik DN500 compressor, RANE ME60b stereo graphic equalizer, TC Electronic M-300 effects processor, Antari 515 XT smoke machine and Robe moving heads for the lights.

Karl Russel, Manager for Student Services at Wollongong University and Marc James, Director for Student Events Centre were impressed by the power of the deceivingly small system. “The system definitely delivered. We were initially unsure of the potential due to the sheer size of the arena, however, our expectations were certainly exceeded!” said Marc James. NMK Electronics Ent. was proud to support such an event and hope to continue supporting local events that help develop the young musicians who impressed us all that evening.
