The campaign, which was launched on March 19, seeks to raise the level of awareness of breast cancer and educate women on the symptoms and signs of the disease, along with diagnosis methods and early detection procedures.
NYIT Executive Chairman Mohammad Hussein said the participation is “part of the social activities the university organizes for its students with the aim of ensuring their interaction with the local community and encouraging them to actively participate in national campaigns designed to build public awareness of key social, economic health and psychological issues.”
He added, “Out of our keenness to take part in the various nation-wide campaigns and initiatives, we have coordinated with Al Hussein Cancer Centre to engage willing NYIT students in the activities of ‘SIWAR NYIT team,’ which is a group of volunteers working under the supervision of the center. The team members have been trained by Al Hussein Cancer Center’s staff, who provided them with all the knowledge and guidance they need regarding the disease.”
The three-day campaign moved between various parts of the capital, including stops such as City Mall, Cozmo and Shmeisani Safeway, where volunteering students provided citizens with detailed information about breast cancer.
The NYIT chairman said students acquainted ladies with ways to detect the disease and explained the importance of early detection, encouraging them to do a mammogram periodically.
The campaign also saw the distribution of free pamphlets on breast cancer, methods of self-tests of breasts and international guidelines on the disease.
