Luxury carmaker Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ Dubai showroom has been transformed into an art curator’s paradise, displaying numerous paintings by modern and contemporary Russian artists, including Sergey Polyakov, Mikhail Kaban-Petrov and Eduard Manukyan.

AGMC, the sole dealer of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates, announced the exclusive agreement with ART Media, which will allow them to showcase ART Media’s renowned private collection at their Rolls-Royce showroom on Sheikh Zayed Road for viewing and purchase throughout April and May.

“There are many synergies between Rolls-Royce and the arts, with our Bespoke programme, in particular, allowing owners to take inspiration from the arts, among other aspects of their lives, to create truly exceptional automobiles. This exclusive collection represents some of the finest modern art to come out of Russia and when the opportunity for this partnership with ART Media arose, the decision was a natural one,” says Osman Abdelmoneim, General Manager of AGMC.

The Rolls-Royce brand has had strong ties to art since its inception more than 110 years ago. The Spirit of Ecstasy, the iconic mascot that adorns the bonnet of every Rolls-Royce since 1911 was created by artist and sculptor Charles Robinson Sykes. The marque has acted as a source of inspiration ever since, prompting individuals, such as photographer Rankin, to create their own interpretation of the infamous symbol of luxury.

Through its Bespoke programme, and models such as the recent Rolls-Royce Ghost Art Deco, the company aspires to incorporate the ideals of fine art and design into the aesthetics of its vehicles. First unveiled at the Paris Motor Show 2012, the Art Deco Ghost model pays homage to the 1925 Paris Exhibition or Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes that gave the Art Deco movement its name. As just one example of Roll-Royce’s arts-inspired models, this special edition was later brought to the UAE as part of AGMC and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ participation in a 2013 exhibition at Dubai’s Salsali Private Museum.

Last year, Rolls-Royce supported a solo exhibition and talk by high-profile Iranian artist Reza Darakshani at the same museum during Art Dubai 2013. Darakshani’s exhibition in New York following his Dubai visit was completely sold out, with one of his pieces being acquired by the prestigious Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).

In addition to seeing numerous renowned works, art connoisseurs visiting the AGMC showroom will also have the opportunity to purchase select pieces of work. The collaboration between AGMC and ART Media runs until the end of May 2014 and comes at a time when Dubai is increasingly celebrating creativity and art.
