Hublot, the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™’s timekeeper, has unveiled the official watch of the event.
Part of the Big Bang Unico Bi-Retrograde Chrono line, the luxury timepiece was specially designed for the event. The creation is a first for Hublot, which has, till date, never produced a bi-retrograde function, along with a central chrono – a movement with patent pending.
Eighteen months of R&D were necessary to develop the automatic HUB1260 manufacture movement featured in the timepiece. The result is a bi-retrograde movement with central chrono, comprising 385 components. It is also one of the only movements of its type in the watchmaking industry today.
Football fans will be able to time the games using their Hublot watches, with two push buttons on either side of the crown. The push button at 2 o’clock can also be used to show the period of time from the following four options: first half, half time, second half and the end of the match, indicated by a window in the centre at 12 o’clock.
Paying homage to the highly anticipated World Cup 2014, the UNICO Manufacture caliber – a unique creation in the industry with column wheel and dual coupling on the dial side – was chosen to serve as the basis of the development of the watch.
With a power reserve of approximately 72 hours, two permanently rotating hands continue to display the passing hours and minutes, while a small sector-shaped counter shows the seconds.
When it comes to its visual appeal, the dial bears the national colours of Brazil – yellow and green – in reference to the event’s host country. The design of the timepiece features a Big Bang Unico case, with a 45.5mm diameter stylish mechanical look. The iconic 6 H-shaped screws secure the bezel. The screw-down crown with overmoulded rubber is also decorated, with the ‘H’ from the Hublot screw, with two push buttons positioned at 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock.
The Hublot Big Bang Official Watch of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil is available in two versions; an 18K King Gold model, with carbon fibre bezel, limited to just 100 pieces, and a Black Ceramic edition, limited to 200 units.
