Louis Vuitton is teaming up with six renowned creative artists to pay tribute to the iconic Monogram.
In 1896, Georges Vuitton created the Monogram using the LV initials as a tribute to his father, Louis Vuitton, who died four years earlier. “The Monogram is timeless,” says Michael Burke, chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton. “Yet, with this project, we wanted to celebrate it in a way that defied the conventions of ‘classic’.”
Christian Louboutin, Cindy Sherman, Frank Gehry, Karl Lagerfeld, Marc Newson and Rei Kawakubo will each create a unique bag and/or piece of luggage using the iconic visual and their design philosophies, all the while keeping with the brand’s spirit.
Whether it is architecture, sculpture or fashion design, each artist will celebrate the design that is now recognised as a defining signature, both literally and metaphorically, of the house of Louis Vuitton.
These very exclusive and limited editions will be available in select Louis Vuitton stores worldwide from mid October.
