As part of MoW’s efforts to alleviate traffic congestion in the Kingdom, the Roads Planning & Design Directorate prepared an integrated traffic study of Turfa Ibn Al Abd Avenue in Manama (the part located between the Exhibition Road to the East and Al Fateh Avenue to the West).
According to Roads Planning & Design Director Eng. Kadhim Abdul Latif, the study recommended the closure of the two entrances close to Jaffar Pharmacy and the Petrol Station. A U-turn interchange, on the other hand, will be opened along the Intersection of Al Fateh Highway and Turfa Ibn Al Abd Avenue to allow for a smooth traffic flow and return to Turfa Ibn Al Abd Avenue.
As for traffic safety procedures, Abdul Latif explained that all traffic safety measures will be doubled, especially for traffic coming from the Exhibition Road side and Al Fateh Highway. Such procedures will include implementing proper berries between the two lanes.
“Once completed, this project will greatly contribute top solving traffic congestion issues along this active Avenue, which witnesses a traffic density of 8,0000 vehicles on a daily basis, and the number rises over the weekend,” said Abdul Latif. “The avenue is surrounded by many restaurants, offices, apartments and shops from both sides,” he added.
The Ministry, following the consent from the Traffic General Directorate and the Capital Municipal Council, commenced work on the project beginning of July. The project contractor is National Excavations Company. Work is expected to complete before the end of October this year.
