The project which was contractually launched on June 25, 2011, serves blocks 901, 903, 905 and 909. The actual drilling works commenced at the site Monday. It is hoped that the project is completed in December 2013.
About 38 km of pipes of various diameters and depths shall be provided to serve the above mentioned blocks, in addition to the establishment of four lifting stations and three pumping stations. The network shall serve around 1700 houses in the project area.
At the end of the visit, the head of the Municipal Council, Mr. Mohsen Al-Bakri expressed his thanks and appreciation to His Excellency the Minister of Works for accelerating the implementation of the project. He also appreciated the continuous co-ordination between the Ministry of Works and municipal councils, and between the Ministry and the citizens on the other hand, indicating that Riffa is a vital and the project will be a qualitative leap in the area in terms of providing more convenient services for the people, ending the problems of floods and overflowing septic tanks that were experienced in the past. Mr. Al Bakri called on everyone to show maximum cooperation with the project contractor and confirmed that the municipal councils will not hesitate to provide support and continuous follow up to the project until completion.
The Minister of Works, Engineer Essam bin Abdullah Khalaf – during an inspection visit to East Riffa last month – has promised to continue to implement actions to accelerate the launch of the sewage project in the first constituency, the Southern Governorate, and directed all the officials in their respective jurisdiction to speed up actions to end all the problems ensuring the provision of all services and in particular the infrastructure projects for the satisfaction of citizens and residents in all areas within the specified time period.
During the visit of HE the Minister to Riffa, he looked into a number of requests of the people of the area including all reports of the holes and bumps and all other problems, in addition to the inclusion of the first constituency in the project for the development of cities and villages 2012, the completion of the sewage project, solving the problem of rainwater overflow, paving all internal roads with the bricks and rehabilitation of all the roads as well as entrances and exits of the sub-roads.
