Second Safety Conference kicks off at Katara

Other subjects that will be discussed during the conference are possible climate change in the world and expected losses if it will be happened and losses and risks effects the environment, high rise building challenges and gas hazards around us and sports security etc. The conference will be an excellent event because of the participation of a group of experts from Japan, USA, Canada, Kuwait and Qatar who are specialized in various fields who will be presenting papers, pointed out the chief of Qatar Civil Defense.

The first paper of the conference titled ‘Al Ahmedi city incident, a rare one in the world: Causes and ways of treatment’ will be presented jointly by the Director General of the General Directorate of Fire Service of Kuwait Maj. Gen. Jassem Al Mansouri and Chief of Kuwait Petroleum Sami Al Rashid.

Maj. Gen. Jassem Al Mansouri has long experience in the fire extinguishing and rescue operations as he has participated in many specialized and advanced courses including the course from Lancashire Fire Brigade of UK, fire investigation course from West Yorkshire Fire Service of UK and executive education from Harvard Kennedy School. He is also a member in several regional and international specialized organizations in the field of rescue and fire extinguishing operations. This is in addition to his participation with papers in man international conferences, said Brig. Al Suwaidi.

The second paper on ‘Climate Change’ will be presented by Dr. Muhammed Jassim Al Musalmani, in which he will explain about the phenomenon of climate changes and its reasons along with analyzing the reasons elaborately, in addition to discussing the ways to fight against the changes and reducing the losses resulted from the climate change.

Dr. Al Musalmani is a highly experienced personality in this field and is the member of Municipal Council from Al Markhiyaa district. He has done his bachelors degree in metallurgical engineering from University of West Michigan and the masters degree from Imperial College of the University of London in materials engineering while his Ph.D in environmental management was completed from the Institute of Environmental Studies of the Brunel University of UK.

Professionally, Dr. Musalmani has served in several posts at a number of establishments and governmental institutions of Qatar and has represented the State in many international organizations and conferences related to climate and environment. He has also worked as the climate change team leader for the GCC council and general coordinator of the Asian group for the climate convention. He also was the supervisor of the implementation and recording for the largest project to reduce carbon emission in oil and gas sectors on global level for Qatar, and the collection of more than 30 million tons of carbon equivalent value of EUR500m (Shaheen project of the reduction of burning natural gas).

Mr. Tetsuo Ibarki from Japan, a senior researcher at Asian Disaster Reduction Centre will present the third paper on ‘Tsunami’. The paper will discuss Tsunami happening and its definition, along with shedding light on lessons studied from the past Tsunamis happened around the world. Mr. Tetsuo is considered as one of the prominent specialized researchers in the Asian Disaster Reduction Centre, with a long experience in this field. He has passed the bachelors degree in Agricultural engineering while his masters degree was completed from Evergreen State College of WA in the USA. Mr Ibaraki has practical experience in basic river management policy making and flood hazard maps making.

The fourth paper on “High Rise Building challenges and Gas Hazards around us” will be presented by Mr. Eugene Campbelle Jr., Assistant Fire Chief of Homeland Security for Dallas Fire-Rescue, USA. In his paper, Eugene will focus on the serious risks in high-rise buildings and ways to prevent these risks through the advanced safety systems and other means as well as the risk of gas and ways of protection. The presenter is a person of distinctive competencies in the areas of his work as he has previously worked with various safety authorities and has done specialized studies in this field.

“Communications” will be the title of the fifth paper to be presented at the conference by Dr. Frans Herms, Managing Director of Spectator Video Technology and Dr. Suhayya Abu Hakim CEO and Chairman of Amika Mobile Corporation.

The paper will elaborate on the means of communication technologies and the technology used in the transfer of video information and cautionary information to the central control system and its advantages. The paper would also explain the default guard system, which can provide a high degree of control for those places that will be difficult to guard by a human being due to its grave nature.

The sixth paper will be on “Profile about NFPA (National Fire Protection Association of the US)” and it will be presented by the Vice President of the NFPA Mr. Gary S. Kieth, and Mr. John C. Dean, member of the Board of Directors of the NFPA. Both the speakers have long experience in the areas of fire and fire-fighting in the US.

The final paper in the Second Safety Conference will be on “Sports Security and the need to protect Critical National Infrastructure” which will be submitted by Dr. Nefyn Jones, Regional Director for the Middle East, BAE Systems. Dr. Jones has long experience in the field of information security.
