The hosts and organisers of the Nations Cup, the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, have pinned high hopes on the first of its kind sporting spectacle in Khorfakkan and are expecting a massive response from both sports enthusiasts as well as general public.
The organisers said that teams of international experts with years of experience in hosting such races and who have worked with the SCTDA in the past been roped in to make the event a great success. The Organising Committee lauded the coordination and cooperation between various government departments and private players to make the first motorboat championship in Khorfakkan a memorable experience.
Thanks to its unique location on the largely unexplored East Coast and rugged beauty of its landscape, Khorfakkan has always been a favourite destination for inland and international tourists. The first H20 Nations Cup with its numerous accompanying cultural activities and entertainment will add a little more spice and variety to the tourist paradise, pointed out the SCTDA officials.
While this is the first time Khorfakkan will witness such a high-profile sports and entertainment extravaganza, Sharjah is not unfamiliar with such international events. The emirate boasts a year-long busy calendar of world-class events and internationally renowned festivals celebrating arts, heritage, sports and culture such as the Sharjah Water Festival, F1H20 Powerboat World Championship or Sharjah Grand Prix (held for the 12th consecutive year), Sharjah Light Festival and the Sharjah International Book Fair etc. Khorfakkan itself has hosted a number of sports events in recent years, including the President’s Cup Formula 2000 Championships in 2005, 2007 and 2008.
Sharjah continues to assert its eminent position in the region by promoting its unique tourist attractions and market for international travellers, riding on the popularity of its numerous festivals and events celebrating the authentic Arab and Islamic culture and heritage.
