The 9th edition of the Sharjah Heritage Days will run from April 3 to 18 in the Heritage area of old Sharjah and across the cities of Central and Eastern regions of the emirate.
The SCTDA Director General, HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman, said that the Authority is proud to be associated with the annual festival celebrating Sharjah and Emirati culture and traditions as it helps the efforts to promote the emirate as an international tourist destination for the entire family.
He said that the Sharjah Heritage Days, organised by the Directorate of Heritage, Department of Culture and Information of the Government of Sharjah to promote the Emirati customs and traditions, each year attracts thousands of tourists. The Heart of Sharjah comes alive with folk music and traditional dance performances. The Heritage Area celebrates different facets of the UAE, including its mountains, agriculture and Bedouin life.
Commenting on the Sharjah Heritage Days, Al Noman said that the constant and generous patronage of HH Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah of the Sharjah Heritage Days and other cultural events and activities has turned the emirate into a “cosmopolitan centre of civilization that we are all rightly proud of.”
He emphasised that the two-week long Sharjah Heritage Days is a great opportunity for everyone to study and understand the emirate’s rich past and helps our strategy to attract tourists to Sharjah. “We support all major initiatives and efforts to celebrate the Cultural Capital of the Arab World in the spotlight”, he said.
As part of this strategy, Al Noman said, the SCTDA is planning extensive familiarisation trips for members of local and international media during the Sharjah Heritage Days besides promoting it on its website, which attracts more than ten thousand visitors a month, and its magazine Sharjah My Destination.
The SCTDA has been supporting the Sharjah Heritage Days since it was first launched in 2003. The SCTDA has been participating in international tourist and travel fairs and exhibitions throughout the year with its eye-catching pavilions and heritage-inspired events, attracting tremendous interest and response from thousands of visitors.
