HE Abdulrahman Ghanem Almutaiwee, the UAE Ambassador to UK and HE Marcio Favilla, Executive Director of the United Nations World Tourism Organization were among the dignitaries who visited the Sharjah stand at the WTM 2013 exhibition being held at Excel London from November 4 to 7.  The dignitaries were briefed about the recent developments in the Emirate’s tourism industry and various tourism projects undertaken by Sharjah in recent times.

Commenting on Sharjah’s presence at the WTM, HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Director General, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority expressed satisfaction over the large turnout of visitors and delegates at the Emirate’s stand in the preeminent global tourism industry exhibition, which is ideally suited to promote Sharjah in European and world tourism markets and attract international investors, industry players and a large number of tourists helping the local economy.

Al Midfa said that the SCTDA is working to develop integrated strategies to promote the Emirate in international markets in order to boost the industry growth and continuously expand Sharjah’s share of global tourism markets.

He pointed out that the Authority has already won several awards and accolades for its successful showcasing of Sharjah and its tourist attractions and profile.

On the sidelines of the global exhibition a number of meetings were held at the Sharjah pavilion, exchanging ideas and views with industry leaders about the pace of developments being witnessed in Sharjah’s tourism and hospitality sectors as well as the latest trends and developments in the global tourism industry.

The SCTDA Director General said that such meetings and exchanges of ideas and experiences contribute to strengthening of relations with major global tourism destinations and highlighting Sharjah’s own, distinguished brand of tourism and the special position the Emirate enjoys as the centre of authentic Arab and Islamic heritage and culture.

Apart from showcasing its rich heritage, physical landscape and diversity of its tourism experience, the Sharjah pavilion at Excel London celebrates the Emirate’s popular cultural and family festivals and events such as the Sharjah Water Festival, which is held in December, and the Sharjah Light Festival, held in February.

Besides, a special niche has been devoted to Emirati culture, customs and traditions with visitors getting a true feel and experience of Arab and Emirati hospitality.  All this would encourage more and more international travellers to visit Sharjah directly helping and strengthening the local economy, hoped Al Midfa.

The Sharjah delegation to the WTM is led by the SCTDA and includes representatives of Shurooq (Sharjah Investment and Development Authority), Air Arabia, the Sharjah International Airport, Sharjah National Hotels, Ramada Sharjah, Arabian Link Tours and Sharjah Media Centre.
