Extensive preparations have been made, and the final touches are being added to the final arrangements for the launch.”
“We are thrilled to be hosting the 8th running of the UIM F1 World Powerboat Championship, whereby we reaffirm our commitment to implementing the directions of H.H. Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and demonstrate our gratitude to H.H Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, for his generous patronage. Al Noman spoke about the history of Formula One in Sharjah, saying, “Hosting the previous 7 UIM F1 World Powerboat Championships in Sharjah has brought about considerable levels of progress toward achieving the levels of excellence to which we aspire. Much has been achieved across the spectrum of industries with which our emirate’s history is linked, among these science, culture and international events. Additionally, we received 5 “Best Event Organiser” awards within that 7-year period. Such progress only spurs us on in our efforts to promote Sharjah as a world-class international family destination for tourism, culture and heritage.”
“Sharjah, represented by SCTDA and the other government corporations and departments concerned in this event, has called in every available resource and removed every anticipated obstacle, in order that this year’s event is a resounding success. To see Sharjah in a position of leadership, not only at the local and regional levels, but on an international level, too, is our goal. We strive to make Sharjah the centre of the world’s attention,” Noman said.
In conclusion, Al Noman extended his thanks to Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports, Mr. Nicola di San Germano, the promoter of the championship and to all who contributed to, supported or sponsored the event.
Mr. Nicola di San Germano, promoter of the F1 Powerboat race also delivered a speech, highlighting the role of sport in general, and F1 races in particular, in reinforcing social and cultural ties among nations and affirming that these competitions transcend racial and cultural barriers. He said, “Sport is a global language and its use as a cross-cultural communication tool removes the superficial differences between people and facilitating a common desire for cooperation and peaceful coexistence.”
Germano said of Sharjah’s hosting of the final round of the UIM World Powerboat Championship, “We are certain that Sharjah is more than capable in this regard. This confidence stems from the emirate’s successful hosting of the event for the past 7 years, and the high standards with which the emirate’s name has become synonymous.” He added that Sharjah’s Khalid Lagoon is a favourite venue among championship participants, and that they are generally keen to compete here.
Germano went on to say that Sharjah now faces a new challenge, in that the emirate’s experience and the standards to which it has held itself while hosting this event in previous years will be difficult to top. He then went on to complement H.E. Mohamed A. Al Noman and his team on their superior organisation of the event and their good hospitality.
