At the start of the meeting, H.E. Ali Bin Salem Al Mahmoud, SEDD’s Chairman, welcomed the Sharjah Police’s delegation headed by Colonel Hussain Ibrahim Ahmed, Director of the Police Stations Department at Sharjah Police.
Attendees then discussed the issues listed on the agenda, including the matter of car rental companies operating in the emirate, their practices, and the disputes that may arise between these companies and their customers. They talked about the legitimacy of certain practices, such as booking a customer’s passport as guarantee, and stressed the necessity to find clear measures to govern car rental companies. The need to set the necessary standards to protect the rights of both the companies and their customers were also discussed.
The attendees also looked at recruitment companies and their compliance with the nature of job market in the emirate, the procedures followed by these companies, and the violations committed by them. The possibility of issuing standard measures to regulate these companies in order to help provide safe and guaranteed services to customers, and to serve the interests of citizens and the job market in the emirate, were also discussed.
Furthermore, the attendees discussed the use of sailboats in the emirate, and the possibility of constructing dedicated berths for sailboats in coordination with Sharjah Municipality and other concerned parties in order to regulate these boats and to enable them to provide more convenient services to citizens, residents and tourists.
During the meeting Al Mahmoud said, “These regular meetings are held in line with the directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, as it is necessary to have constant coordination among all of Sharjah’s Government departments and authorities. These meetings are of paramount importance as they assist with follow-up’s, help distribute tasks, and ensure that the appropriate measures are taken to create a positive image among citizens while helping to establish safe and regulated economic activities.”
“The issues discussed in the meeting are important for citizens, residents and tourists alike, and we must find measures to regulate these activities and provide the required services in a safe and reasonable manner. We will continue our joint efforts and meetings with the Sharjah Police to ensure that the ideal measures are put in place to control all sectors,” he added.
Present at the meeting were Fahad Ahmed Al Khumairi, Director of the Finance and Administrative Affairs Department, Mohammed Ahmed Liwad, Director of the Registration and License Department, and Mudathar Abdullah Ali Fadal, SEDD’s Legal Advisor. Sharjah Police was represented by Colonel Abdullah Mubarak, Director of Al Buhaira Police, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Rashid Al Obad, Director of Al Gharb Police Station, and Major Yousif Obaid Al Harmoul, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Al Gharb Police Station, as well as Major Jumaa Al Ghawim, the meeting scheduler.
