President and CEO of Mercury MENA, Mr. Adnan Mian participated as a keynote speaker in the 5th edition of Concepts Middle East, which was held in Doha, Qatar on 28th and 29th May 2014. A unique business meetings and knowledge sharing initiative, Concepts Middle East is specifically designed for construction and design professionals of the Middle East. Now in its fifth edition, it aims to introduce architects, interior designers, contractors, consultants and project holders with the best solution providers. Keynote addresses and panel discussions by industry experts highlighted current and future trends in the Middle East construction industry. As representative of one of the leading MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) engineering companies in the region, and a speaker at the event, Mr. Adnan Mian expressed his appreciation of the highly focussed gathering that provided the ideal platform for design professionals and international suppliers to meet in a business focussed environment.
During the conference, speakers and panelists discussed and debated key strategies and plans for the industry, looking at measures to collaborate with various stakeholders involved in mega projects to ensure on time and on budget delivery. The importance of taking on the challenges of construction within both the private and public sectors and of dealing with the growing dissatisfaction with standards within the industry, and seeking improvement through rethinking re-engineering construction, learning as much as possible from those who have succeeded elsewhere was highlighted.
“Considering the situation we are in, we have two choices, Ignore all of this in the belief that construction is so unique that there are no lessons to be learned; or seek improvement through re-thinking and re-engineering construction, learning as much as possible from those who have done it well elsewhere.” said Mr. Mian.
He further added that “in order to have greater certainty and confidence on delivery of mega projects within cost, time and to acceptable quality, there is a pressing need to draw all the promising development in construction together and set unified goals. This direction and the impetus for change must come from government and major clients.”
Mercury MENA has shown its commitment to the industry, supporting all aspects of its progress and development in the region through an increasing participation in such events. The 5th Annual Concepts Middle East threw the spotlight on changing design requirement and plans for the strategic collaboration of the various stakeholders involved in the upcoming mega projects to ensure time and budget delivery in the industry. Speakers also assessed risk management, labour challenges and put forth suggestions to ensure world class health and safety standards.
