Following a successful wrap of its Producers’ Coaching Program earlier this year in Amman, Med Film Factory – a unique specialized training program for Arab Directors and Producers in the MENA region – continued its current cycle with the second training session, the Directors’ Workshop.

During an eight-day hands-on-training, which started on April 8th, 2014 in Amman, participant directors working on their first or second feature narrative film project are mentored by international directors and film experts on and off set, as they go into production to shoot one scene from their projects.

The participant directors are also supported throughout this workshop by skilled and expert local cast and crew, a factor that only enhances the quality of the experience.

Tutors and experts for this workshop include: Nadir Moknèche (Algeria), Robert Quinn (Ireland), Larry Sider (USA), Antoine Heberlé (France) and Isabela Araujo (Brazil).

Being able to catch a glimpse of their future projects by bringing one of its scenes to life is quite an extraordinary experience for the participant directors. “Working with our experts in the safe yet meaningful environment of the Med Film Factory is a liberating experience,” said Kamir Ainouz, the Algerian writer/director of the project Honey Cigar. “By identifying the real intention behind the key scene I’m shooting, I’m clarifying the whole film’s mise-en-scène. I feel inspired and cinematically daring. Whether this will translate in the actual final product, we shall see, but I’m already grateful that I can see, hear and feel my film like never before,” Kamir added.

Launched in 2011, this program was initiated by the Royal Film Commission- Jordan (RFC) in partnership with Sud Ecriture – Tunisia and the Huston School of Film & Digital Media – Ireland, and co-financed by the Euromed Audiovisual Program of the European Union.

The third and final session of the current cycle of Med Film Factory, the Independent Film Assembly, will take place in June 2014 in Jordan.
