Aramex Showcases its Automated Lockers as the Delivery Solution for E-commerce
The Middle East Express Company Aramex announced that automated lockers will be placed all around Dubai in the future. Through a smartphone, customers will be able to use these lockers to deliver to someone else in another part of the city, where recipients will receive a mobile notification and a QR code to unlock the locker and pick up their package.
According to Hassan Mikail, Aramex’s Global Director, automated lockers will be a huge alternative delivery solution for e-commerce and the next 2 years will be very exciting for e-commerce and digital in MENA. The automated lockers will result in a cheaper delivery system and will enable customers to directly ship products purchased online.
PayFort Releases First Arab World Online Payment Report 2014
PayFort, the Arab world’s leading online payment gateway and payment solutions provider, released its Arab World Online Payment Report 2014, at the ArabNet Digital Summit 2014. The report provides in-depth analysis of the state of e-payments and e-commerce in the four markets in which PayFort has predominantly operated in over the past year – the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Kuwait. Since launching in Dubai, UAE in June 2013, and in its first year of operation, the PayFort network processed over 3 billion UAE dirhams (around $817 million) worth of processing transactions.
“We at PayFort wanted to conclude our successful first year of operation by releasing this in-depth report, which highlights the rapidly changing dynamics of the region’s e-commerce and e-payment industries,” said Omar Soudodi, Managing Director of PayFort.
According to the report, in the UAE, 60% of the 3.65 million e-commerce customers are located in Dubai, while another 27 percent are in Sharjah and Abu Dhabi collectively. In Egypt, 27 percent of e-commerce purchases are paid for with a credit card, while cash on delivery makes up the remainder.

Arabreneur Identifies Three High-growth Palestinian Startups for US$300K Seed Funding
Arabreneur, a pan-Arab initiative that seeks to create an enabling ecosystem for young Arab entrepreneurs, announced its second cycle of investments in three high-growth Palestinian start-ups that will benefit from Arabreneur’s US$300K seed funding.
The startups include ‘Sooshef’, an online platform that allows aspiring chefs to find and customize recipes based on the ingredients they have, ‘Jobreneur’, a cloud-based platform that offers talent pool in the MENA region with access to online consultancy assignments in international markets, and ‘Imagry’, a mobile image recognition platform that enables users to search through images that are hyperlinked to the products’ online portals.
The four beneficiaries showcased their innovative products and services at the ArabNet Digital Showcase, which exposed more than 40 fast-growing digital SMEs to global and regional influential investors to help take their business to the next stage of development.
