Commencing on 11 October 2008 and located on 115,000 square meters of land on Jeddah Corniche, the exhibition showcased current and upcoming real estate development projects in the Makkah region.
One of the main features of the exhibition was the Jeddah Central Development Project (JCDP), which is being developed solely by the City Center Development Company (CCDC).
The project attracted huge interest from visitors especially architects and construction industry professionals as well as students from the Engineering College and the Marketing Club at King Abdul Aziz University who were invited by CCDC. The visitors were shown how the project will develop the central area as a major element of the city’s overall economic and demographic development program, it will transform the old center of Jeddah into an economically attractive landmark that offers new job opportunities and contributes to meeting the city’s increasing demand for housing over the next 20 years.
Eng. Khaled Abdulghaffar, CEO of CCDC, expressed his appreciation of the visitors’ keen interest in the project and highlighted the importance of maintaining Jeddah’s historic background and role as the Makkah Gate.
He went to praise the interest and support shown by the King, saying: “The project will set the heart of Jeddah beating again thanks to the inspiring leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the support of the Government and the cooperation of Jeddah Municipality.” Eng. Abdulghaffar concluded by saying “The Jeddah Central Development Project is a unique platform that is designed to enhance the beauty of the Bride of the Red Sea.”
Meeting with landowners whose property is included in the project, HRH Prince Khaled bin Faisal bin Abdul Aziz, Prince of the Makkah Region, assured them that the attention and support of The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and his government reflects the high importance of Jeddah as the biggest seaport on the Red Sea and the city’s King Abdul Aziz Airport as the largest in the region.
CCDC is planning to open its very first showroom in Jeddah, in which the company will display the project’s architectural model to visitors and keep them updated with the latest information. Details and the opening date will be announced later.
The CCDC consortium includes the Urban Development Company, Solidere International, the company behind the re-birth of Beirut city center; and renowned regional partners such as Siraj Capital, Al-Tijaria & Venture Capital Bank. Dedicated to redeveloping the central business hub and preserving the historic area, the project will be the largest city center urban project in the Arab world. In co-operation with Jeddah Municipality, the vision is for the Jeddah Central District to once again become the heart of the city.
The project will economically rejuvenate Jeddah Central District, create world class business facilities, retail outlets and residential properties, revive the historical and cultural heritage of Jeddah, purify its marine environment and reunite the city with the sea. The end result will create job opportunities and housing for Jeddah’s young population, 60% of which is under 25.
