Cerner Middle East, a developer of information management systems geared towards health care, recently announced the winners of the Cerner Achievement & Innovation Awards 2014, during a gala awards ceremony at The Ritz Carlton Hotel in Dubai.
Abu Dhabi Health Services Company PJSC (SEHA) led the 2014 award recipients, garnering three awards:
- Achievement & Innovation in Patient Care Delivery
Leveraging Malaffi, “one patient, one record” (Cerner Millennium) database, to recognize symptoms of kidney disease by looking across encounters and identifying patterns. Though early detection, treatment has reduced morbidity, mortality and cost.
- Achievement & Innovation in Patient Care Delivery in Departmental Experience
One chronic issue plaguing emergency rooms is the lack of transparency to waiting times, which could be up to three hours at Al Rahba Hospital. SEHA solved this problem by leveraging data within Malaffi to create a real-time dashboard to identify where roadblocks were occurring. This dashboard contributed to a more than 50 percent reduction in emergency room wait times.
- Achievement & Innovation in Nursing Experience
SEHA created an early warning system to evaluate many components of the medical record and alert caregivers when a negative change was underway, allowing them to react more quickly to the patient’s needs resulting in fewer fatalities and overall lower cost in treating patients.
King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Saudi Arabia was also awarded for Achievement & Innovation in Patient Care Delivery, having used Cerner Millennium to integrate nursing documentation and infection control reporting to provide better coverage of MRSA screenings, resulting in a 18.6 percent improvement in identifying MRSA patients.
Children Cancer Hospital Foundation in Egypt was recognized for Achievement & Innovation in Physician Experience for meeting Joint Commission International documentation requirements by developing pre-completed note templates, including chemotherapy and supportive care protocols, in Cerner Millennium. This eliminated a lot of the unnecessary manual work effort in documentation and auditing.

The awards ceremony was held during the annual Cerner Middle East Regional User Group Meeting, a two-day knowledge-sharing event designed exclusively for Cerner Middle East client health care leaders, clinicians and IT professionals. The event covered best practices and the latest developments of health care in the region. More than 180 senior health care representatives from various organizations, hospitals and ministries attended.
