First day of Fourth Iraq Mega Project Conference and Expo puts Iraq oilfield needs front and centre

The first day of the two-day conference successfully gathered together policy makers, investors and key players in Iraq’s oil field production industry as doors open to the country’s most powerful platform for spurring investment in the country.

The Missan Breakfast was hosted by H.E Dawai Ali Lazim, the Governor of Missan and gave new and existing industry players the opportunity to meet the Governor and discuss the second construction phase of its Halfaya oil field project and the opportunities the oil field’s reserves of over 4.09 billion has to offer. Governors of Basra and Kirkuk will host the Provinces Breakfasts on the morning of 2 October 2013.

Iraq Mega Projects’ schedule of sessions and seminars focused on infrastructure solutions in support of oilfield production in Iraq. The conference kicked off with a session on optimising Iraq’s oil field development that focused on scope, new technologies and future steps. The session was moderated by Dr Mehdi Hafeth, Chairman, Progress Institute for Development Policies, Former Minister of Planning. Panellists included H.E Ismatt Sideek , The Iraqi General Council to Dubai, H.E. Dr Bayazeed Hassan, Vice Chairman of the Oil & Gas Committee, Federal Parliament of Iraq, Mr. Munther Asaad , the Director General of Customs . Iraqi Government, Mr Mohammed Sabir, Director of Projects, North Oil Company.

The Exhibition commenced with the Inaugural Opening Tour led by H.E. Dr Bayazeed Hassan, Vice Chairman of the Oil & Gas Committee, Federal Parliament of Iraq and Ismatt Ageed Sideek, Iraq’s Counsel to Dubai, Iraqi Consulate in Dubai. It introduced delegates to international companies showcasing products and services to improve oil field optimisation in Iraq. Following the exclusive tour, the exhibition was officially opened by H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum to over 2000 visitors.

The second session of the morning presented oil field showcases in which success stories, challenges faced and future plans were shared. Moderated by Jennifer Coolridge, Executive Director of CMX Caspian and Gulf Consultants Limited, the session explored the second phase of the Iraqi West Qurna Project. Panellists included Ilya Malyukov, Head of Financial Planning & Treasury, LUKOIL Overseas Baltic Ltd, Michael Duvendack, Engineer Manager, Iraq Common Seawater Supply Project, CH2M Hill, Ali Alwash, GM, State Company for Oil Projects (SCOP) and Mohammed Riyadh Sabir, Director of Projects, North Oil Company.

This was followed by conference sessions and roundtable discussions relating to the needs of oil and gas concerns operating in Iraq, including training and key suppliers. Key attendees included Daniel Matthews, Regional Director, Central Iraq, GardaWorld; and Richard Wilson, General Manager, Pentagon Freight Services.

The CWC Technical Seminars welcomed industry professionals who heard about the latest techniques and innovative technologies directly from companies working within the Iraqi oil gas industry including; NAFFCO, Eusebi Impianti, Control Risks, Bactec, Khudairi Group and Al-Ghodwa for Trading Agencies, the JCB Dealer of Iraq. On day 2 of the CWC Technical Seminars, Lukoil, GE Power & Water, ABB, Emerson Process Management and Citibank amongst other companies will present papers on restoring key pipelines and infrastructure to meet export needs and assessing the role of water and power for improved production levels in Iraq.

First day proceedings finished with a drinks reception that saw informal networking between high powered delegates; IOC and NOC representatives, technology providers, contractors and other stakeholders in Iraq Oil. Day two of the event kicks off tomorrow from 08:00 with the Basra and Kurkuk Province Breakfasts.
