Members of Qatar Airways Privilege Club and BA Executive Club can now earn miles, which they can redeem from October 1. Members can also enjoy a range of exclusive privileges and benefits.
“The benefit partnering with British Airways brings to our customers is the added opportunity to earn ‘Qmiles’,” says Akbar Al Baker, chief executive officer at Qatar Airways. “Privilege Club members may redeem their ‘Qmiles’ for award tickets, excess baggage or merchandise through Qatar Duty Free or Oryx Galleria in Doha.
“This frequent flyer programme partnership also gives customers an opportunity to attain credit for destinations throughout the entire Qatar Airways network,” he adds.
As with ‘Qmiles’, BA Executive Club members can collect ‘Avios’ when booking flights or shopping with the airline’s partners, which can be used for flights, hotels, and ‘members only’ special offers and promotions.
In 2012, Qatar Airways announced that they would join Oneworld – one of the world’s three largest global airline alliances – and while the deal has not yet come into effect, the fact the partnership with BA has already gone live indicates that the airline will join Oneworld on October 1.
Qatar Airways’ network currently serves 120 destinations in 70 countries. Fifteen of its destinations and three countries – Iran, Rwanda and the Seychelles – will be new to the alliance.
Oneworld member airlines include Air Berlin, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Royal Jordanian and S7 Airlines (Russia).
