The ceremony in Dubai marked the first time the event was taking place in the Middle East.
H.E. Sheikha Lubna said, “Sustainability is a business imperative and sustainable practices allow businesses to make and save money. Today managing and valuing our resources is just as vital as managing budgets and bottom lines. Moreover, the motivator for adopting sustainable practices is no longer just social responsibility as it is equally about achieving high performance measured in terms such as lower costs, stronger customer relationships and increased revenues. This relentless business focus is a key characteristic of a new era of sustainability, in which environmental, social and corporate governance issues are embedded throughout operations, the supply chain and subsidiaries.”
“The UAE has been setting a pioneering example with regard to sustainability and we have been creating the right conditions where sustainable practices can flourish so that the corporate sector can play an integral part in it as well,” H.E. added.
Ahmet Bozer, President of Coca-Cola Eurasia Africa Group, said, “We thank H.E. Sheikha Lubna and her Ministry for the support extended to us, which is symbolic of the UAE’s continuing commitment to sustainability. Coca-Cola has always been committed to minimising our environmental footprint and engaging with our communities. Looking ahead, we will continue to strive to be the global corporate leader in water sustainability and the beverage industry leader in climate initiatives and sustainable packaging.”
During the event awards were given in five categories, in addition to the grand prize for the Best Bottling Operation 2011 Award. The winner of the grand prize was identified by an international jury who assessed the performance of the top 10 performing country bottling operations in the fields of environmental, quality performance, and their contributions to the communities in which they operate.
