United Arab Emirates: Monday, April 02 - 2012 @ 12:17

“This is a great achievement for Rugby Union in the UAE and we are exceptionally pleased to be officially recognised by the UAE National Olympic Committee and His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,” said Mohammed Falaknaz, UAE Rugby Association Chairman.

“The UAE Rugby Association recently celebrated its 3rd Anniversary and during this time we set our aims high and have celebrated many successes. We will continue to work on growing the game, develop our youth through the Schools and Clubs and provide our Emirati players with more international games.”

UAE Rugby’s developmental 7’s Emirati side, Shaheen, claimed the Shield at the recent Bangkok Sevens.

Both the UAE National Team and Shaheen are preparing for the upcoming Asian 5 Nations tournament where the UAE National Team will compete in Asia’s Top 5 and Shaheen will play Afghanistan in a series of 7’s games.

A full member of ARFU UAE Rugby is in the process of working towards full membership of the IRB.
