The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has distributed official invitations to all ministries, government entities and authorities from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to attend the third edition of the “GCC eGovernment Award”. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the event will take place in the Intercontinental Dubai Festival City Hotel from December 9th to 11th.
The event falls in line with on-going efforts from all GCC governments to enhance the e-services sector, to coordinate efforts and share best practice by reviewing the progress currently being made in each country. The event will also provide a strategic platform for industry experts to exchange insight and review the mechanisms in currently in place to reinforce e-link between Gulf countries.
Commenting on the importance of the UAE hosting the event, H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Deputy Director General for Information and eGovernment Sector said,
“Hosting an event of this magnitude represents an important milestone for the UAE. In a relatively short space of time, the UAE e-government initiative has made huge strides forward and the 2013 GCC eGovernment Award will without doubt, build on the success of previous editions. We look forward to working with our counterparts from across the GCC to unify efforts and to develop the collaborative mechanisms required to realize a shared vision.”

The GCC eGovernment Award agenda features a number of workshop and discussion panels with the participation of a number of leading industry experts and government officials. The agenda is designed to explore the issues relating to both Smart Government and Smart cities and ultimately, the benefits of the transformation of government service delivery.
The purpose of the Award is to honor creative ideas and recognize those who excel in using Information and Communications Technology (ICT) tools to provide services and information. The competition includes seven main categories (Best Government eService award, Best Government Interoperable eService award, Best Government-to-Government Shared Service award, Best Government Portal category, Best Application for Smart Device category, Best Government eParticipation category, and Best eInitiative category). In addition, a special exhibition will be held alongside the award conference and it will welcome visitors from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm five over the three days of the event.
