The Information Technology Authority (ITA) represented by the Sas program, in association with Australian Game Development Company, is conducting a five-day workshop on eGames development in the Crown Plaza Hotel, Muscat 15th – 20th June 2014.

Targeting students, graduates, games savvies and enthusiasts, the initiative will offer the skills necessary for Omani game start-ups to become successful at generating their own entertainment IP.

Expert speakers and mentors including Australian games critic Jeremy Ray, Halfbrick co-founder Dan Vogt, Well Placed Cactus founder Jack Gillespie, Game Designer and Artist at Halbrick Dan Graf, and Unity game engine expert Tim Taylor, have been brought over from the Australian gaming industry – famous for its agile development studios wielding globally recognised IP – to give talks and advice. Talks will cover subjects such as marketability, publishing, entrepreneurialism, community building, and the art and science of game design.

A lucky 30 attendees were chosen from over 100 applicants to pick the brains of veterans of the gaming industry, from studios such as ‘Halfbrick’, responsible for the global mobile gaming phenomenon Fruit Ninja. Those who missed out on the workshop will still have access to the developers, through a separate networking event — making sure as many Omanis as possible benefit from this extraordinary opportunity.

Doubling as a competition, attendees will later split up and see who can make the best game within 3 days — with the winning team taking home year-long licences for the gaming engine Unity, and a two month internship at Sydney-based studio Epiphany Games also up for grabs.
