In recent months, the government of Saudi Arabia has continued to invest aggressively in Information Technology in a bid to efficiently deliver smart government services, boost healthy economic diversification to drive both social and human capital development across the Kingdom.
In line with its commitment to contribute to the government and community in Saudi Arabia, EMC hosted the second edition of its Arabic Public Sector Mega Workshop to showcase latest technologies and discuss how they can help redefine the future of public services and national administration.
The event comes as analysts predict a steady growth in IT investments in Saudi Arabia, driven by transformation objectives of the government sector. According to IDC’s Saudi Arabia Vertical Markets 2013–2017 IT Spending Forecast , IT spending in Saudi Arabia is set to increase 10.7% year on year in 2014 to total $11.50 billion, with the government sector predicted to be the fastest growing vertical with IT investment reporting CAGR of 12.9 % through 2017.
Held at the Four Seasons Hotel, the Public Sector Mega Workshop brought together over 100 IT professionals representing key government entities in the kingdom to exchange insights and ideas on modernizing existing IT infrastructure to effectively leverage the transition to the third platform driven by the mega trends of cloud, social, mobile and big data.
Designed to be the first ‘All Arabic’ technology platform, the event is expected offers an in depth understanding of the value advanced technologies can bring to the table for the public sector and simplify often complex IT deployments to address challenges unique to this sector. The event featured three independent tracks the topics of which were decided based on feedback from IT professionals working within the public sector on what technologies they believed to be e most critical to achieve their IT transformation and business goals.
The first of these tracks focused on showcasing new data protection-as-a-service based capabilities to effectively support the needs of modern IT infrastructures and virtualized data centers to ensure that critical networks and data remain secure and accessible anywhere, anytime.
The second workshop highlighted the software defined data center and the unrivalled scalability that these technologies can bring to help the public sector cope with future data, application and user growth. The third session highlighted how IT teams can effectively optimize their virtual desktop environments with flash technologies to leverage quick automation and maximize the utilization of resources to accelerate workflows and delivery of public services.
Created as a knowledge transfer platform, this year’s edition of the event also sought to recognize outstanding students from leading universities in the Kingdom who were awarded as part of the closing ceremony for the event. Four students from key higher education institutions in Saudi Arabia were invited to attend the workshop and engage in the various discussions and leverage the opportunity to meet and network with visionary technology leaders in the public sector.
The Public Sector Mega Workshop also is further supported by Cisco, SURE IT, 3T, Jammaz, Redington Value and MATCO , all of whom come together under the umbrella of the event to aid the public sectors efforts to enhance service delivery and workflows across key administrative department and government entities across the Kingdom.
