EMC announced the opening of the EMC CIO Connect Summit 2014 for Turkey, Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Taking place at the Grand Tarabya Hotel in Istanbul, Turkey on the 4th and the 5th of June, the event brings together senior executives from EMC together with IT leaders from the finance, telecommunications and public sector industries to discuss how IT can be redefined to better support business needsand create greater enterprise value.

The event comes as EMC continues to emphasize the need to re-envision IT models and practices to focus on delivering greater returns to the business and enhancing business performance with the powerful combination of IT Transformation, Big Data and IT Trust.

Mohammed Amin, Senior Vice President, Turkey, Eastern Europe, Africa and Middle East at EMC Corporation opened the event with a presentation highlighting the impact of the converging trends of social, mobile, big data and cloud on enterprises today, that creates a greater need for IT organizations to rethink their approach to engaging with the business and service delivery.

The presentation shed light on EMC’s vision for the Software Defined Enterprise to create “agile” business environments apt for a rapidly changing business and technology environment. The keynote also focused on the strategic change in the role of IT from being a mere service and support center to a value driven role as enterprises continue to look for means to ‘do more with less’.

At the summit, EMC released the findings of a survey conducted by The Economist Intelligence Unit in December 2013 and commissioned by EMC that assessed the emergence of CIOs as strategic leaders as both the business environment and technology continue to change. The survey titled “A blended future: The changing mix of IT service delivery and consumption” found that both CIOs and business executives agree that they need to collaborate more closely to ensure they deliver greater business value from technology deployments.

The survey highlighted keys trends that are driving enterprises towards a blended future that combines a mix of internal IT with external brokered IT services and reported a significant transformation in the role of the CIO from one focused on maintenance and support to one of strategic direction and innovation:
• More than 50% of participants believe that CIO responsibilities for security, risk and compliance management will increase substantially over the next three years.
• 25% of respondents expect significant expansion of CIOs’ roles for information management and analytics
• 23% of respondents say that CIOs would continue to be of strategic importance within IT services management

The EMC CIO Connect Summit 2014 featured a series of insightful panel discussions and collaborative breakout sessions aimed at CIOs to leverage technologies like cloud, software defined data centers and big data to redefine business processes, drive competitive differentiation and performance enhancements.

Mohammed Amin, Senior Vice President, Turkey, Eastern Europe, Africa, and Middle East said, “As organizations continue to work towards enabling the agility they need to cope with rapidly changing business and technology environments to stay competitive and remain relevant to their customers, CIOs need to rethink their approach to IT and service delivery. Now more than ever, IT teams need to collaborate more closely with their business peers to agree on common service definitions and performance metrics to gauge the real impact of IT on business outcomes.

This edition of the EMC CIO Connect Summit gave us the perfect opportunity to highlight how our customers can effectively create and position an agile and contemporary mix of new services to redefine business processes, drive competitive differentiation and gain significant performance enhancements without adding costs and complexities to the existing environment. It is our vision at EMC to ensure our customers remain ahead of the game and make the right use of IT tools and resources to deliver greater value to business.”
