Volunteers already want to return for 2013 Grand Prix

United Arab Emirates: Thursday, November 22 - 2012 @ 13:01

Hundreds of UAE nationals volunteered at the Grand Prix earlier this month to help 50,000 spectators. These Takatof volunteers, the volunteering arm of the Emirates Foundation for Youth Development, enjoyed the event so much they are now keen to return next year for the 2013 race.

New figures published today also show:

• Takatof volunteers collectively contributed over 7,000 man-hours to the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix;
• Volunteers spent more than 2600 hours preparing for the event.

Volunteer Yassmin Al Housani said: “This is the first time I have taken part in organizing an F1 Event with Takatof. It was a great experience and I am delighted with how it has gone. I will not hesitate to do it again next year and I stand ready to participate in local activities and events that will be held in the UAE.”

Takatof volunteer Shihab Al Shihi said: “Volunteering is an amazing feeling. It gives you a great experience because you are dealing with different people from different nationalities. On top of that, we are playing a key role in building UAE an image of unity and positivity. I would like to invite all Emirati youth to participate in Takatof and give back to UAE.”

Volunteer Khawla Khalile said: “I am very happy to have joined Takatof. Within one year I learned a lot and I had the opportunity to participate in local and international events. My participation taught me patience, communication skills, the ability to manage difficult situations, and teamwork that has strengthened my team spirit.”

Maytha Al Habsi said: “Each volunteer with Takatof or Sanid played a significant part in representing their country this month, and it is encouraging that they are already saying they would like to return next year.

“Being part of this event helped them personally in terms of developing their skills, and also meant they were able to be part of a major Grand Prix race that has ended up being one of the most thrilling of the year.”

Al Habsi also mentioned that the Emirates Foundation is planning a huge recognition event by the end of this month that will commend Foundation’s volunteers for their dedication and hard work. “We will be announcing further details in the very near future so keep an eye on our website and our social media channels.”

The main duties of Takatof volunteers were welcoming spectators at Abu Dhabi and Dubai airports, organizing transport, helping guests in the grandstands, and volunteering at Ferrari World. Volunteers were preparing for the Formula One for a number of weeks, and had to attend dry runs at Yas Marina Circuit, and sessions how to handle a number of different possible scenarios.
