This is the second time that Kele sponsors a similar charitable cause, the first time being sponsoring Lebanese innovators Paul Abi Rached and Kamal Mouzawak.
Support was provided in the form of training, mentoring, facilitating connections to business and financial awards for these innovators. Each sponsorship donation is for the period of one year, and this year Kele has chosen to help with three worthy initiatives; the first being “Donner Sang Compter”, an initiative to raise awareness about voluntary blood donation across Lebanon.
The second an economical and environmentally friendly waste management organization ‘Cedar Environmental’ and an initiative designed to teach development and career skills to children from various orphanages known as ‘The Big Brother Initiative’.
The Arab World Social Innovators (AWSI) programme aims to increase the scale and sustainability of successful initiatives that bring social and economic change to underprivileged communities.
Launched by Synergos, a global philanthropic organization, in 2008, the programme selects and supports exceptional grassroots leaders, providing them with tailored services to enhance their leadership and expand the impact of their programmes.
By sponsoring the Arab World Social Innovators Program, Kele Contracting will invest into an effective model to support and strengthen local social entrepreneurs in Lebanon. The AWSI programme is achieving sustainable change by empowering local leaders and organizations, building relationships of trust, and strengthening the capacity of institutions to anticipate and respond to challenges faced by their communities.
The first initiative which is Lebanon’s largest centralized database of volunteer blood donors was built by Yorgui Teyrouz to offset the lack of a centralized blood bank.
His company, Donner Sang Compter is composed of young volunteers from various social and professional backgrounds who raise awareness about voluntary blood donation across Lebanon in public places such as schools, universities, movie theatres and malls.
Ziad Abichaker is addressing the growing problem of providing affordable and environmentally friendly waste management at the local community level in Lebanon through his organization, Cedar Environmental L.L.C. With soft loans from local banks, the organization builds and installs small processing facilities that sort compost and recycle waste in residential communities in an odorless manner.
Zeina Awaydate founded The Big Brother Initiative, a way for children from different orphanages in Lebanon, to connect with supportive adults (‘big brothers’ and ‘big sisters’), who will spend time teaching development and career skills to the children. The big brothers and sisters serve as role models for children and provide them with the individual attention and family-like support that is lacking in an orphanage.
