Online Yellow Pages upgrade puts site on level with global leaders

United Arab Emirates: Monday, March 03 - 2003 @ 13:22

In addition to the complete re-design of the bi-lingual site and more company information available, the Gulf region’s first online business mapping system has been integrated to pinpoint locations and provide accurate directions. (www.yellowpages.ae)

A brand search facility has also been added to refine the identification of businesses online. Furthermore, microsites and online internal directories now allow users to access extensive information on a specific company of their choice.

The upgrades to the site have been made in partnership with Al Wahda Express, the official publishers of the U.A.E yellow pages, and Informap Production LLC, a leading online mapping company.

“With the introduction of new features to the online Yellow Pages, businesses will be able to reach their customers more effectively,” commented Maroua Naim, General Manager, EIM. “Across all our services we are developing innovative product solutions that deliver the best possible service to our customer.”

The new mapping service, provided by Informap production LLC, lets users locate a business establishment throughout the country. A zoom function is available to a maximum of four levels, with the last level allowing the user to print or e-mail the page. All the U.A.E’s shopping malls have also been mapped out in detail, giving users the opportunity to identify specific shops within each mall and gain information on them.

“Many customers have highlighted to us how difficult it can be to find a specific business in the U.A.E,” added David Khidasheli, General Manager, Informap production. “The new mapping system not only provides an area and street map, but also highlights key landmarks to the destination and a photograph of the building. This will cut the time of travel significantly when locating the destination.”

Navigation on the directory is now more user-centric, through the standardization of the search function and tool bars. The site now presents an entirely new look and feel.

“It is possible to search for certain specific brands,” commented Wayne Foster, Chief Executive, Al Wahda Express LLC. “Previously, searches were limited to specific names of businesses and classification. Now users are able to simply type in or select a brand and be provided with a list of outlets in the U.A.E that distribute that particular brand. In turn, the mapping function can be used to locate the relevant outlets.”

The Microsites are smaller integrated sites that can be accessed to give an overview of a company. These give links and information on the company’s activities, working hours and products and services offered.

As part of the extended information offered on each business, online internal directories have been created, where departments, people and individual extensions are be listed.

Launched in July 2000, the Yellow Pages has over 60,000 listings categorized by nature of business under 2,500 classifications. The site also features travel details, exhibitions and events, and free zones and other useful information.
