Knowledge without Borders is preparing to participate in the 6th Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival which will take place at Sharjah Expo Centre from 15-25 April.

During this participation, KWB will organise an array of cultural and entertainment activities as well as competitions which will highlight its achievements in promoting the culture of reading in the UAE community. The leading cultural project will also purchase around 20,000 children books from 50 local and Arab participating publishers. These books will be distributed to national families in Al Dhaid city in Sharjah, as part of the second distribution phase in the city which will continue in this year and the next, covering 4500 beneficiaries in Al Dhaid and its villages and the surrounding areas.

Speaking on the occasion, Rashid Al Kous, General Manager of KWB, said, “Through participating in the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival, KWB seeks to encourage children and parents to read and benefit from the home libraries in their houses and to introduce the project’s initiatives and activities which cover all segments of society.” He added, “As this year edition of the festival coincides with the Sharjah Islamic Culture Capital celebrations, the stand’s design is inspired by the theme of the celebrations to highlight Sharjah’s cultural leadership and prominent presence in Islamic world.”

He clarified, “The festival is an opportunity to encourage children to read and familiarise them with the role played by the project in promoting reading through the home libraries, moving libraries and other initiatives that aim to develop people’s culture. It serves as a platform to network with publishers and to update them on the criteria required by KWB in its book selection. This will encourage publishers to enhance the quality of their books as a prerequisite to deal with KWB.”

KWB will present a range of entertaining activities including a theatrical show on the 16th of April, two animal shows on the 17th and 24th of April and a storyteller show which will be presented by children of one of Sharjah’s kindergartens at the KWB’s stand on 21st and 22nd of April. There will be also the ‘Faces’ initiative, where children, parents and visitors will be asked to document their visits in a 30 second video clip that includes a catchy phrase or saying about reading or culture.

The Knowledge without Borders project was launched under the auspices of HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and with the close follow up of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Organising Committee of Knowledge without Borders project. The move aims to spread community awareness about the importance of reading and general knowledge, and to establish a library in every house containing a valuable collection of books that address different topics, after studying the cultural needs of each family.
