IPS property conference 2014: Dubai emerging as strong realty market offering institutional investors income generating assets in mid and long turn

“Attracting Sustainable Real Estate Investment” is the theme of the International Property Show (IPS), a one-day Conference to be organised on 9th April 2014 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, in association with The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) International and Strategic Marketing & Exhibitions, the company organizing IPS for the tenth consecutive year.

The Conference will bring to the table roadmaps for emerging markets to compete with more established real estate markets.

“This world-class conference comes at a time when institutional investors are looking at Dubai as a typical realty market that provide income generating assets in the mid and long run,” said Mr. Dawood Al Shezawi, CEO, Strategic Marketing & Exhibitions. “Dubai is offering properties in prime centres with cashflows matching those of fixed income investments, reversing the old impression gained by the Emirate that it is a ‘flip’ market.”

Al Shezawi added: “This conference will discuss local and regional market transparency and the factors that motivate international funds to commit large sums of money to the local market which we started to feel remarkably in the Dubai market since the start of 2014.”

Al Shezawi said: “We are delighted to work with RICS International to present this world class conference. RICS is IPS’ Official Knowledge Partner and they bring wealth of experience to this major exhibition. The world class conference will present strategies to be implemented by emerging markets to grab a bigger slice of the global real estate investments by adopting new technologies, developing sector-specific education and training, attracting nationals into the real estate sector, and creating opportunities for institutional investment.”

Robert Jackson, MENA Director, RICS said: “RICS is delighted to be the Knowledge Partner of the IPS conference, which is supported by DLD. The conference theme will centre on how frontier and emerging markets can attract sustainable real estate investment. We have already secured some first class international speakers, including senior heads of the International Valuation Standards and International Property Measurement Standards Coalition and the Global President of RICS. Our aim in 2014 is to create a free-of-charge event that provides insights into the elements that create a thriving and sustainable real estate market that competes in the global investment arena.”

Moreover, role of regulation in driving transparency, market confidence and facilitating sustainable investment in emerging markets are some of the key topics to be discussed at the conference, according to RICS International.

One of the success factors of this conference is that the 10th IPS coincides with the 4th edition of Annual Investment Meeting (AIM) thus attracting high-level retail investors who are re-entering the market buying prime properties at choice locations, according to Al Shezawi.

The conference will also discuss the importance of adopting international standards and their impact on market transparency. There will also be discussions on ethical standards, with audience participation. In addition the conference will look at the interaction between professional bodies and government entities, showcasing past joint initiatives and demonstrating collaborative working and knowledge sharing.

Al Shezawi added: “The idea to run the International Property Show concurrently with the Annual Investment Meeting is to maximize the number of investors visiting the exhibition.” He added: “Investors are, typically, looking at commercial buildings, retail space and hotels as key assets since they wish to benefit in the run up to Expo 2020 in Dubai.”

Al Shezawi added: “This conference will also host a special session on contracts, dispute resolution and dispute avoidance in the construction and real estate sectors, and how to avoid risk pricing, project delays and unwanted costs.”

IPS 2014, which will be held between 8 – 10 April in the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, has attracted over 300 companies from 80 countries. The RICS International is planned on the second day between 10am – 5pm.
