According to figures released by Oman’s National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), the number of Omanis receiving low-cost housing grants and loans increased in 2012 to over 6,000 from 782 in 2010, the total value of which stood at OR134m, Muscat Daily has reported. The grants and loans, created as help for first home purchases, were given to 6,291 citizens in 2012. According to NCSI figures, 1,388 citizens were extended low-cost housing loans, valued at a total of OR26.7m, while a further 4,903 received grants for the same purpose with a total value of OR107.3m.
