Last Night, The Domain Bahrain welcomed members of the Chaine des Rotisseurs for a formidable 7-course dinner. The venue of choice was IMARI, The Domain’s contemporary Japanese restaurant, lounge and bar.
The evening started off with a cocktail reception in Txoko, the basque lounge on level 36, which offers spectacular views of Manama and Muharraq. Cocktails and a selection of canapés were served by the team of “Le Domain ”, the restaurant that introduced Cuisine Niçoise to Bahrain.
The real reason for coming together at The Domain, however, was not to taste more French food. Instead, the “Rotisseurs” were introduced to the Japanese art of Kaiseki, a traditional multi-course Japanese dinner. The restaurant was decorated specially for this celebration of Japanese Haute Cuisine.
Modern Kaiseki draws on a number of traditional Japanese styles of food preparation, which were all formalized and developed over time, and continue in some form to the present day. Chef de Cuisine Mr. Riichiro Matsui presented his own personal interpretation of Kaiseki for this special occasion. Executive Chef Bengt Carlsson provided the English explanations and – where deemed necessary – gave some unique insights in how to best experience the intricate flavors on each of the plates.
The seven courses introduced some of the finest ingredients, flown in from Japan, including Yellowtail Hamachi, Toro Tuna Belly, and Unago Sea Eel to name a few. Mr. Riichiro-San’s culinary creations were masterfully paired with a number of outstanding New World wines, and Hakutsuru Sake, served just at the right temperature.
At the end of the dinner, the entire team of The Domain colleagues involved in the preparation and service were introduced by Mr. Michael Koth to the Chaine des Rotisseurs and received a well-deserved round of applause.
