The Children of Gaza art exhibition at Meem gallery closed on 15th of February after raising Dhs95,992 to support the work of ‘Save the Children’ in Gaza.
According to Soha Ellaithy, Director of Gulf Partnerships for Save the Children, the money will be directly spent on health and education programs in the Gaza strip.
‘The Children of Gaza’ exhibition is based on photography taken by award-winning photographers, Anthony Dawton, Jim McFarlane and Giuseppe Aquili, who entered Gaza with the support of Save the Children in 2010. Renowned Iraqi artist Dia Azzawi also produced a series of original prints to accompany the exhibition.
According to artist Anthony Dawton the exhibition has now raised over $250,000 for Children in Gaza over the past three years, and has ‘continued to highlight the problems children and young people experience living in Gaza’.
“To be able to combine art and charity and raise so much money for Save the Children in Gaza was a wonderful opportunity,” said John Lillywhite, founder of QØDE Artists Agency. “My personal thanks to gallery director Charlie Pockock and the Meem Gallery team for making this possible.”
Children of Gaza Dubai was in collaboration with QØDE Artists Agency and the El Sayed Foundation, and was step towards a larger art-diplomacy campaign focused around displacement and Syria. Entitled ‘Hotel Zaatari’ this exhibition will open towards the end of 2014.
