: Monday, February 10 - 2014 @ 12:44

Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre of Gulf Studies is one of the main sites of Sharjah Light Festival 2014 and its special presentation of lights, colour and melody, which offers a peek into the region’s history, has been attracting numerous visitors and tourists.

The show at Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre of Gulf Studies is particularly special as it trains the spotlight on the Centre’s unique collection of centuries-old cartography and history. The Sharjah Light Festival display illuminates the history of the region and world on the building’s façade. The lights showcase the dome as a luminous sphere representing the other half of what exists inside the Centre.

Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre of the Gulf Studies boasts a rich treasure from the personal collection of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, which has been collected over decades.

The collection includes rare maps, manuscripts and books dating back centuries as well as some stunning specimens and models of European and Arabian ships that played a pioneering role in the maritime history of the region.

The Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre of Gulf Studies building in Sharjah city is seen as a welcome addition to the SLF festivities this year. The Centre is an important cultural and historic landmark of Sharjah. The building is another fine example of the beautiful Islamic architecture as well as a modern urban structure that is ideal for celebrating the festival of lights and colours this year with its theme of the Capital of Islamic Culture.

Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, which is hosting the Festival for the fourth year, has been keen to add new and outstanding locations and historical landmarks to the SLF celebrations each year to highlight the Emirate’s distinct Arab and Islamic heritage and legacy. Internationally acclaimed artists from around the world are invited each year to join the Festival and add their special creative touch to bring out the aesthetic grandeur of Sharjah’s historical and urban landscape.

The Sharjah Light Festival will run until February 14 at 12 locations that include the Sharjah City Municipality, Kuwait Square, Cultural Palace Square, King Faisal Mosque, Al Taqwa (Al Majaz) Mosque, Al Majaz Waterfront, Central Souk, Al Qasba (Internal façade), Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre of Gulf Studies, Hamza Bin Abdul Mottaleb Mosque in Kalba, and Omar Bin Al Khattab Mosque in Khorfakkan. The performances will be held every night from 7.30pm to 11pm on weekdays and until midnight on weekends.

A full programme of activities and further details are available at the official website www.slf.ae as well as through social networking sites of the Authority.
